Trains depart from the Bryson City depot on Saturdays for the Nantahala Gorge Excursion.

Trains are departing out of Bryson City on Saturdays to the Nantahala Gorge for the next few weeks.
The Nantahala Gorge Excursion departs Bryson City at 10:30am and travels along the Tuckasegee River until it reaches the Little Tennessee River at Lake Fontana, and proceeds along the basin of the Gorge into the Nantahala National Forest. To the Cherokee, Nantahala means "land of the noon day sun". The scenic excursion provides a more detailed view of the mountains during the winter months. Upgraded seating to the Crown Coach and the Club Car is available.
We are now booking cabin rentals for ski, snowboarding and snow tubing season.
Enjoy NC Mountain snow tubing, skiing and snow boarding nearby at Cataloochee Ski Area and Tube World.
Above and Beyond is available for ski season in the mountains at Cataloochee Ski Area.
Ski season at Cataloochee usually begins on Thanksgiving weekend as long as the weather is cold enough to make snow.
December, January, February and even early March are perfect months for snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding in the NC Mountains.
The Dillsboro-Bryson City Smoky Mountains train runs year round but with limited hours. Enjoy the magnificent vistas only seen when the fall foliage is gone for the winter. You will have a good chance of seeing snow.

January, February and even March are perfect months for skiing, snow tubing and snowboarding in the NC Mountains.

A full-size replica engine of the famous character created in the original book by Watty Piper is coming to Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City for a fun filled family adventure.
Families can enjoy live music, face painting, old fashion carnival games, story telling, petting zoo, and the appearance of characters from the story. Those of all ages who remember the story of the Little Engine That Could™ pulling the train of toys for boys and girls over the mountain can renew the memory on special excursions departing from the Bryson City depot May 16 - 18 and 23 - 25. Visitors at the train depot will hear "I Think I Can. I Think I Can." as the train leaves the depot become "I Thought I Could. I Thought I Could." as it returns to the depot.

Ticket price is $18.00 for ages 2 and over, which includes the half hour train ride and all the fun activities for the family. Reservations are strongly suggested.
