CHEROKEE INDIAN RESERVATION

The Cherokee Indian Reservation is the home to the Eastern Band of the Cherokees. Located in the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, the mountains have been  the Cherokee's home for thousands of years. Today, Cherokee is the center of the Cherokees history and culture and visitors are welcomed to experience the culture of the Cherokee Indians.
 Junaluska Museum and Memorial Site is located at the burial site of Cherokee Warrior Junaluska in the Great Smoky Mountains near the Nantahala River.
The museum is dedicated to preserving Cherokee history and culture.
The museum displays arrowheads, spearpoints and other artifacts found  in the Cheoah Valley, artwork and crafts by Snowbird Indian community members, and information about this valley, its people. and how it is  the starting point of the Trail of Tears. Arts and crafts ar featured in the gift shop.Visitors can buy arts and crafts in their small gift shop.


The Museum of the Cherokee indian is an interactive experience that takes visitors through the history of the pre-Cherokee Native Americans to the present. The Qualla Arts and Crafts Guild is a cooperative for 300 Cherokee crafts people established in 1946. The Craft Guild is part museum, studio and part art gallery, showing displays of traditional baskets, masks, pottery, and woodcarvings




Judaculla Rock Sylva, NC
Judaculla Rock is the best known petroglyph site in North Carolina. Judaculla Rock is a mysterious collection of Native American petroglyphs, Cherokee groups were know to have ceremonial assemblies around the rock.


Cowee West's Mill National Historic District in Franklin
Cowee West's Mill National Historic District has historical man-made structures dating back 1,400 years. Cowee is a significant historical area. Cowee mound, built in 600 B.C., before the Cherokee period, is one of the few remaining earthen mounds.

The Nikwasi Indian Mound is the last remnant of a Cherokee town of the same name which once stood on the banks of the Little Tennessee River.
