Cataloochee is now closed. After a wonderful run for the 2007/2008 season with a record 130 days of Great Skiing and Riding in the Great Smokies! Tube World located in Maggie Valley across from Ghost Town in the Sky is also closed for the season. Don't forget that Ghost Town in the Sky will reopen on May 2. We want to thank each of you who have supported us by riding, skiing or tubing with us this season and we look forward to seeing each of you again next season. Mark your calendars and come November 1, anytime there is a snowmaking opportunity count on Cataloochee to begin snowmaking for the 2008/2009 season.

Trains are rolling out of Bryson City on Saturdays to the Nantahala Gorge for the next few weeks.
The Nantahala Gorge Excursion departs Bryson City at 10:30am and travels along the Tuckasegee River until it reaches the Little Tennessee River at Lake Fontana, and proceeds along the basin of the Gorge into the Nantahala National Forest. To the Cherokee, Nantahala means "land of the noon day sun". The scenic excursion provides a more detailed view of the mountains during the winter months. Upgraded seating to the Crown Coach and the Club Car is available.
The Gourmet Dinner Trains depart from Dillsboro at 7:00pm on Saturdays beginning on February 2nd. February 14th and 15th will be special Valentine's Day Dinner Trains, departing Dillsboro at 7:00pm. The Winter Dining Special Discount begins on February 17th continuing through March 31st. With the purchase of one dining ticket at regular fare, you get a second dining ticket at half price. The Tuckasegee River Excursions departing Dillsboro at 1:00pm will begin on March 1st, 2008.

The Polar Express comes to life when the train departs the Bryson City depot for a journey to our "North Pole". Guests on board will enjoy hot chocolate and treats while listening and reading along with the magical story. Experience the joy of watching the children's faces when the train arrives at our "North Pole," where Santa Claus will be waiting. Santa will board The Polar Express where he will greet each child and present them with a special memento. Holiday carols will be sung on the return trip to Bryson City. Families will want to make this a holiday tradition! $32.00 per person for adults and children 13 and older. $20.00 per child. Chidren 24 months and younger are complimentary. Ticket price includes admission to the Smoky Mountain Trains Museum in Bryson City. Please note: During the online reservation process, you must select a date and time for each reservation.

Happy St. Patrick s Day! Please listen carefully to our hours of operation for the month of March. We will open for twilight and night skiing Monday through Fridays from 1pm until 10pm and day skiing only on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am- 4:30pm. We will not operate on Sunday, March 23, in observance of Easter Sunday. We will continue to make snow as long as temperatures permit throughout the month and we have great coverage and plenty of snow which should allow us to ski and ride throughout the rest of the month.
On Monday we will be skiing on 6 out of 14 slopes with 4 out of 5 lifts operating: Intermediate Lower Omigosh serviced by the Omigosh Double Chairlift, Intermediate Rock Island Run serviced by the Rock Island Run Quad Chairlift, Beginners Over Easy, Beginners Easy Way and Beginners Rabbit Hill serviced by the Easy Way Triple Chairlift, and the Wolf Creek Hollow Ski School Area serviced by the Moving Carpet Conveyor Lift on a base of 25-46" and a machine worked surface.
On Monday we will offer two sessions of skiing, twilight skiing from 1pm until 10pm and night skiing from 6pm until 10pm with an afternoon half day rate also available. Also offered today is our Guaranteed Learn to Ski or Ride Package where first time skiers or riders age 8 and above may purchase a beginner lesson, beginners area lift ticket and ski rental equipment for only $39 or a beginner snowboard lesson, beginner area lift ticket and snowboard rental for only $55. And with our guarantee, you may repeat the lesson as often as you like during the same day session. Package lessons begin at 2 and 4pm and you must be here at least 30 minutes prior to the time the lesson begins to sign up.
Tube World located in Maggie Valley, across from Ghost Town four miles from the ski area is now closed for the 2007/2008 tubing season.
Don't forget that season passes will be on sale for the lowest prices of this year and next now through March 31.
